It has been raining here for 3 days straight and today the sun finally came out, and the puppies could have a run outside, well I forgot about the mud, didn't I. So they all had a bath, with a friend helping. Lots of crying and Lucy jumping up on us. But we now have 3 very fluffy and soft puppies.

Poodle Grooming

Learning about Poodle Grooming can be one of the most rewarding experiences for you and your Poodle. Not only will you be helping your dog to have the most gorgeous coat and healthy skin, but you will be allowing a bonding process to occur between you both.

If you are completely new to grooming, you can learn to groom right here with our step-by-step videos. Hiring a professional groomer is always available for you if you mess up on your first try, but it’s okay. Unless you’re in the show ring, you can learn right there in your own home with your best buddy.

You may even just want to learn Poodle Grooming solely to maintain the condition of the coat in between groomings. This is the key to having an imaculate looking Poodle at all times. Some people want to learn to groom their Poodle simply to be educated with the procedure in order to ensure their groomer is doing a good job or to find a good groomer.

But whatever the reasons are, we are here at all times for you. We hope you get a chance to view our videos and get your feet wet. We are always adding new content to our site, so you could even subscribe to our RSS feed or get on the newsletter.

You’ll also need to get your hands on some quality grooming tools. You can find them at The Poodle Supply Shop. At that site you can get a simple grooming kit which includes a bottle of suds, a brush, a comb and other staples.

Routine brushing is very important. As you know, Poodles are not considered a “shedding” dog, but they do lose some hair and that loose hair can get tangled up with the “live” coat, causing it to mat up. You should keep a dematting comb in your kit in case this happens. Regular brushing is very good for the skin too, as it helps to distribute the natural oils on the skin. It’s not recommended to brush your Poodle every day though, as you should give the coat a chance to breathe. But don’t let it go too long without a regular brushing.

Blow-drying after a nice clean bath is also a must for the coat. There are right ways and wrong ways to blow out a Poodle’s coat. We teach you all about that in our videos as well. You’ll find methods that can take serious chunks of time off of your routine, while stressing the most fundamental techniques.

Okay, I see whats going on. I learned this technique that I will be sharing with you from a video that I saw once about dog training, I will give you her youtube page in a second. She's awesome, makes training your dog so much easier. Okay, what you have to do, and what you should of done in the beginning is to make her feel conferable inside of her crate, by you being in there with her and sitting and playing with her toys etc... This in turn will make her feel like it's good place to be in, not a bad place. Just be in the crate for a while with her daily until she gets used to it or just to show her that her crate is a good and fun place to be in. While your in it make sure you make it fun and that you play with her toys, and make her feel welcomed. This should do the trick. I hope I helped you. Just try it. There are many ideas, and a lot of different ideas and different opinions.

I dont believe in having a young dog in a crate during their day, wake time. they do need to learn about being crated and that it is OK to be. crated
There are the times they need to be while owner is shopping, cleaning etc.
if your at home and can watch them.why have them in a crate?IMO only here
My motto on crating is
Get that cute thing out and enjoy them while they are little.crate just when necessary.. But they do have to learn it is Ok to be crated,
Usually the puppy whine stops in 5 or so minutes . Some are more determined to whine longer.
puppy proof your home, and keep a watchful eye on them., no one likes being caged, human or dog The dog needs to explore and walk around and learn about his world, what to do and what he cant do , That isnt learned in a crate.
If it is at night and the dog is young crate and keep by your bed so the dog is safe but doesnt feel lonesome.

not everyone has the room or the $$ to have a large enough pen to go inside it with the dog
, crating is the smaller version, The large ones that a owner could go inside are pens. some are portable
these are nice if one has the room for one inside their house, if they woek during the day

Laura111 Thank you soo much for this post. It has already helped me a lot! She's now doing MUCH better and I'm learning that she just wants to hang out with us so, I let her sit in my lap or in her little bed thingy on the couch with me while I'm working and she's great!

I'm making very little progress. She still goes in the house. I'm definitely doing something wrong I just don't know what it is I'm doing wrong. She's also having a hard time bonding with me. I'm not sure what it is.

A crate is a good thing! My dogs love their crates, even my 11 year old who used to hate being in her crate. She loves to lay in hers with the door open. My Tucker is even protective of his, Koko goes near and he growls at her and runs in. The first thing is to never take them out when they are crying, otherwise they will think they have won and will cry even more the next time. It should always be a positive thing, don't put them in as punishment. We put Tucker in his as a puppy when we were gone and when we were busy and couldn't watch him. It made is so easy to housetrain him too. Good luck.

How long should it take for her to get use to it? She still cries a ton when I put here in there...last night I laid down beside her and that helped a little, but today I had to put her in there while I took a nap (ended up in the ER yesterday and my medication made me extremely drowsy), and she was sooo mad! I didnt get her out though. I wish this were easier! LOL

Allergys could be a cause, Boredom, (where did you get her from?)
Dry skin or irratated pads if its only her feet she is licking.
Read through this and have the vet check her out, although it sound like you already did that. Good luck keep us posted, Hopefully some other members will chime in.

Okay, I see whats going on. I learned this technique that I will be sharing with you from a video that I saw once about dog training, I will give you her youtube page in a second. She's awesome, makes training your dog so much easier. Okay, what you have to do, and what you should of done in the beginning is to make her feel conferable inside of her crate, by you being in there with her and sitting and playing with her toys etc... This in turn will make her feel like it's good place to be in, not a bad place. Just be in the crate for a while with her daily until she gets used to it or just to show her that her crate is a good and fun place to be in. While your in it make sure you make it fun and that you play with her toys, and make her feel welcomed. This should do the trick. I hope I helped you. Just try it. I dont believe in having a young dog in a crate during their day, wake time. they do need to learn about being crated and that it is OK to be. crated

Poodle Grooming Requirements

Good grooming is important for all dogs, but it is absolutely essential for the poodle. Poodles must be brushed, bathed and clipped regularly because if they are not, they become quite matted. The poodle has hair that is more like our own than a dogs. The poodles curly hair never stops growing and even grows inside their ears and on the bottom of their paws. It is said, the poodle is non-shedding. The truth is they do shed; only the hair does not fall out, it stays in the hair coat. This is what causes matting and matting can cause skin problems.

When a poodle is groomed regularly, they are less likely to suffer from mats, tangles, skin problems, ear infections, overgrown nails or parasite infestation. So, not only does regular grooming keep your poodle looking good, it also provides health benefits. A poodle should be brushed and combed several times a week, with a full clipping every six to eight weeks.

The poodles extensive grooming requirements make the poodle one of the most expensive breeds to own. Poodle grooming is time-consuming and requires patience and skill. To save on the expense, some owners learn to groom their poodles at home. Even if you take your poodle to a professional dog groomer, there are still some grooming tasks that have to be done at home such as:

Brushing and Combing – Your poodle should be brushed and combed at least three times a week. Correctly using the right brush and comb keeps the skin clean and healthy and makes your poodle less susceptible to disease and external parasites.Bathing Your Poodle – How often should you bathe your poodle? Whenever she needs it. As long as you use a correctly ph balanced shampoo, you can bathe your poodle as often as necessary.Ear Care – Check your poodles ears at least once a month. Remove excess hair that is growing in the ear canal and clean the ears. Ears that become heavy with hair are prone to infection.Eye Care – Check your poodles eyes daily and remove any debris that has collected on the inside corners with a moistened cotton ball. Daily attention to the eyes and the hair under them is the best way to control staining.Dental Care – Periodontal disease is the most common canine health problem.. Brushing your poodles teeth on a regular basis is the best way to prevent dental problems.Nail Clipping – Keep your poodle’s nails short enough that she can stand and walk comfortably. If your poodle has fast-growing nails you may have to trim them yourself.Anal Glands – A regular check of the anal glands and expressing them if full, should be a part of the poodles grooming routine. How is it going so far with the potty training?

And my friend just above me: how do you simultaneously pad and outdoor potty train at the same time?

How is it going so far with the potty training?

I'm making very little progress. She still goes in the house. I'm definitely doing something wrong I just don't know what it is I'm doing wrong. She's also having a hard time bonding with me. I'm not sure what it is.

A crate is a good thing! My dogs love their crates, even my 11 year old who used to hate being in her crate. She loves to lay in hers with the door open. My Tucker is even protective of his, Koko goes near and he growls at her and runs in. The first thing is to never take them out when they are crying, otherwise they will think they have won and will cry even more the next time. It should always be a positive thing, don't put them in as punishment. We put Tucker in his as a puppy when we were gone and when we were busy and couldn't watch him. It made is so easy to housetrain him too. Good luck.

How long should it take for her to get use to it? She still cries a ton when I put here in there...last night I laid down beside her and that helped a little, but today I had to put her in there while I took a nap (ended up in the ER yesterday and my medication made me extremely drowsy), and she was sooo mad! I didnt get her out though. I wish this were easier! LOL
