Dog thrown off bridge gets a big fan club

Luckyliberty-t A Texas man apparently doesn’t understand the ages old pact between prehistoric man and early dog that involved the dog’s right, even obligation, to eat the garbage left by humans.

Instead Shane Rushing, 43, tossed the 6-month-old puppy off a bridge 50 feet into the water because he was tired of the dog getting into the trash. It isn't known if he had tried other means of solving the problem.

A witness called the police and Rushing was arrested. Animal Control Officer Tammy Bishop found the dog on a small rocky island in the middle of the river, probably wondering what the impromptu swim was all about.

The veterinarian who treated and released him said the not so little white puppy is possibly a Great Pyrenees mix.

The police department has received 70 calls from people wanting to adopt him, hopefully people with more working brain cells than Shane Rushing. Rushing has been charged with animal cruelty.

The dog has been temporarily named Lucky which is probably a snappier name than Deservedly Bitter. The story

Speaking of dogs who have a right to rummage through our lives: Sammy the rat terrier/chihuahua/whatever mix can climb up on our kitchen counter. He jumps from the family room couch to a barstool, and then another hop to the counter. Once there, he takes whatever he can get his teeth on. Butter, bagels, bags of peanuts, etc.

Now. This could go two ways: 1) we could rearrange the furniture every morning. 2) we could recognize that dogs have an ingrained right to rummage through our lives, and accept the occasional pilferage.

We settled on 2). None of us could remember to rearrange the furniture every morning anyway.

Hmm, that's a solution we never thought of trying on Tucker ...

I have to admit, waking up to every garbage can in the house tipped over, the newspaper shredded and every toy in the house scattered from one end to the other, I'm tempted to toss ole Dexter in the Brazos...but I would never do it...he'd find his way back and shit in every shoe I own.

I just got through watching a show that says dogs were probably formed from wolves, because of humans trash. My dog will NOT stay out of the trash. We have a whole trash system to keep her safe.

BTW I think the shorter version of the name "DB" would be very cute.

I hope the doggie has a long, happy life and that guy gets whatever the maximum punishment is.

I Say toss this Shane idiot in the river! I have a new guy that likes to get into the garbage in the kitchen. The kitchen can has a top with a domed lid - the front slides up and down. Was effective in keeping snouts out until Eddie. He stands up against the fridge (he's a puggle and on the smallish side) and noses the top open with his cute little snout and fishes out what he wants! He's too stinkin' cute to get mad at!

Chances are you don't see this as Eddie's way of establishing a bond with his humans by cleaning up their dens.

Our Dobie puppy, Maxine, is so tall that she can't go by the trash can without snooping for a tasty morsel. Imagine a dachshund on stilts. Yeah, it's frustrating, but it's no where near to justify this moron's actions. Some people shouldn't have dogs.

Maxine undoubtedly thinks she is doing her centuries old doggie duty.
